🎵 Tradition! Tradition! 🎵
Share stories of holiday traditions past and memories of those who may no longer be with us.
OK so maybe you didn’t play Tevye in your high school’s production of "Fiddler on the Roof." But you CAN embody his spirit and love of tradition!
Earlier in this program, you might have asked your kids about what traditions your own family has in place. But let’s talk about what came before! Where might these traditions come from? Did you and YOUR parents/siblings always get Chinese food on Christmas Eve, since that big Christmas Day meal prep zapped everyone’s energy? Did Grandpa dutifully fall asleep in that one rocking chair about 13 minutes after every holiday meal? Talk about traditions big and small. Ones that were planned and ones that weren’t.
And if you can, try and make this a place you can talk about those who are no longer with us. Keep their memory alive and bring them into the festivities in a way that is positive and light, yet meaningful and keeps them near. And please without a doubt, laugh about those traditions you couldn’t WAIT to get rid of when it was time to make your own family. And let your kids be happy they don’t have to wear pantyhose under every itchy holiday getup.
And oh, did we get that song stuck in your head? Sorry, not sorry! Here you go, we’re happy to scratch that itch.
