This weekend has a full lineup of food, music, and family activities across Chicagoland. From food trucks and basketball games to classic carnival rides, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the last days of summer before school starts.

    Top Weekend Events in Chicagoland

    Summer is almost over, but there are still a few ways to get outside with the family before school starts. Here are three events happening Aug. 21–24.

     

    🍔 Family Food Truck Rally (Friday): Pizza, burgers, lobster, empanadas and more will be on hand, along with inflatables, face painting, a juggling show, and live music.

     

    🏀 Bulls Fest at United Center (Saturday–Sunday): The weekend includes a 3v3 basketball tournament, art exhibits, live music, and family activities.

     

    🎡 Hickory Hills Carnival (Thursday–Sunday): Four days of rides, games and concessions. Aug. 21 is Special Needs Day, and unlimited ride passes are available if you purchase ahead.

    Exploring Downtown Chicago with Kids

    Planning a family day downtown before summer officially ends? Here are easy spots to eat, shop and explore in 2025.

     

    🍔 Eat: JoJo’s Shake Bar’s giant shakes wow kids. Wildberry Pancakes & Cafe is a breakfast favorite. Eataly has pizza, pasta and treats to go. Avli on the Park, near Maggie Daley Park, serves kid-friendly Greek dishes.

     

    🛍️ Shop: American Girl offers a café and doll salon. The Lego Store shows off Chicago landmarks in bricks. Harry Potter Shop has wands, robes and more. IT’SUGAR is a quick stop for candy lovers.

     

    🎡 Explore: Maggie Daley Park features climbing, mini golf and winter skating. The Museum of Illusions sparks curiosity with optical tricks. Skydeck Chicago’s Ledge offers stunning views. Families also love the Chicago Children’s Museum.
